2024 legislative session starts with issues kicked up from 2023

There isn’t as much money on the table and most of the big decisions were made last year, so the to-do list is inherently smaller. Legislative leaders have said they’ll focus on a public construction bill and policy tweaks.

🏥 Native Americans shut out of the nation’s liver transplant system
Compared with their total number of deaths from liver disease, white people gain a spot on the transplant list almost three times more often than Native Americans, the data shows. Had transplant rates been equal, nearly 1,000 additional Native people would have received liver transplants between 2018 and 2021.
☸ Wreck of ship that sank in 1940 found in Lake Superior
The 244-foot bulk carrier Arlington was found Monday in about 650 feet of water some 35 miles north of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. The ship was discovered thanks to a resident of Negaunee, Mich., who has been conducting remote sensing in Lake Superior in search of shipwrecks for about a decade.
