Legislature to meet for Gov. Landry's tough-on-crime session

When Louisiana lawmakers convene this week at Gov. Jeff Landry’s request to consider sweeping changes to the state’s public safety system, the debate will center over whether to keep people in jail longer or show them second chances.

How did the Blue Cross Blue Shield proposed sale to Elevance Health, one of the nation's largest insurers, end up on life support? 

Blue Cross and Elevance had some of the state’s most powerful lobbyists for the proposed $2.5 billion sale and spent some $20 million to get the deal over the finish line.

But a buzz saw of opposition put the plans on hold, for now.
