Crypto Contagion Lesson For Lenders: Stay Out Of Bitcoin Mining

BlockFi and Celsius, two high-profile crypto lending businesses, both filed for bankruptcy after a year of disaster in the crypto industry.

Both companies also maintained significant bitcoin mining units, with BlockFi partnering with Blockstream and Celsius investing $500 million in mining efforts. BlockFi's mining operations have not played as prominent a role in its bankruptcy proceedings as Celsius's have.
Celsius has announced plans to continue mining through its bankruptcy proceedings, but this has been expensive and unprofitable so far.

The downfall of these companies has provided a lesson for future entrepreneurs to be cautious about the combination of crypto lending and mining, as the two markets inevitably become intertwined in a feedback loop.

You Can Now Live In This Swiss City Solely On Bitcoin

Lugano Switzerland is a city built on Bitcoin. Plan ₿ foundation is the city's partner initiative with Tether intended to bring bitcoin to the forefront of its interests. Most recently, they announced a new interactive map which makes it easy for visitors and residents to find merchants and services that accept bitcoin.

Prior to this, Lugano onboarded several merchants in the city including McDonald's, allowing patrons there to purchase their food in bitcoin. They also announced the Plan ₿ Summer School, which was an education program designed to introduce people to the Bitcoin business ecosystem. 

Jurisdictions will increasingly try to lure Bitcoiners and Bitcoin companies as adoption of the technology grows, such as what we've seen in El Salvador, Madeira and now Switzerland.
