Forward bends

Dear Yogi,

Don’t we all love the sweet release of folding forward, when we no longer need to tense our muscles and can totally let go into a pose? (Or maybe not …!)

Forward folds are often thought of as calming and introspective postures because they mimic the protective foetal position, drawing our energy and attention inwards. They can also help us ease into a rest-and-digest (parasympathetic nervous system) state.

But despite holding so much potential for relaxation and release, they’re not easy for everyone and can stir up emotional reactions.

Learn more about the biomechanics of forward folds and try them in class.

Love,

The EkhartYoga team.

“Thank you for this gift, Adela, it was wonderful – very simple and profound. It felt like serious work on all fronts, but with so much ease and lightness! I will try to stick to it in all bodily and daily affairs.”
