Happy Hogmanay. You don't need me to tell you that the big public New Year celebrations are cancelled because of the Omicron variant, but I hope many of you have something smaller-scale, but no less enjoyable, planned for the next few hours. In the past, Scotch and Wry and Only An Excuse would have formed a vital part of that plan, perhaps. But, this year, it's going to be Scot Squad taking on the challenge of entertaining the nation in the run-up to the bells - don't miss Brian Ferguson's interview with Jack Docherty, aka Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson, on how he feels about following in the footsteps of Rikki Fulton and the Reverend I.M. Jolly. Beyond tonight we'd normally be looking forward to a packed New Year fixture list, with big clashes in football and rugby, but Covid's taken care of all that too. Still, as I write, what's expected to be a busy transfer window has opened with a bang: Celtic have announced the signing of no fewer than three J-League stars to join Kyogo Furuhashi - the forward who has been such a sensation since joining in the summer. Our sport team will keep you up-to-date with all the comings and goings this window - and we are expecting quite a few. New Year is a time of resolutions, of course. And if, like me, you hope to press the reset button on getting fit, we've got plenty of expert advice out - or coming - to help you set some targets. In tomorrow's Saturday Scotsman Magazine, Tracy Griffen offers some sound advice on how to set targets and get going, and on Monday we'll bring more advice on the importance of gradually building new habits if you want your resolutions to stick.
