I think I have a pretty good analytical mind. I enjoy problem-solving, and I’ve always had an affinity for sifting through data. And then I got to the age where I need to start thinking about Medicare, the federal health insurance for people 65 and older, and the decisions I will need to make about medical coverage for the rest of my life. Yikes. I’d heard from my mother about how confusing and intimidating it could be as you face enrollment, due to the multitude of options (Parts A-D, supplemental coverage, etc.) and the possible consequences of making choices that may not be best for your circumstances. These are the kind of decisions where the more expert advice you have, the better. And that’s where MLive Media Group is stepping in to help. From 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 24, we’re hosting a free informational session, “The Guide to Medicare & Golden Retirement,” that you attend virtually on Zoom. The event is sponsored by Priority Health, and I’ll be co-moderating the event with Eric Hultgren, MLive’s director of marketing/branded content. Our panel is: Lauren Glover, Medicare territory manager for Individual Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans, Priority HealthMargaret Anderson, senior vice president, chief sales and marketing officer, HAPJudy Wirth, agent sales manager, Blue Cross Blue ShieldTammy Wilfinger, licensed life and health agent at Priority Health These experts will give plan overviews and answer your questions about Medicare enrollment, including choosing between traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage. They’ll also give guidance on what to know when picking a drug plan. For instance, here’s an actual question from a participant in last year’s event: Question from attendee: Can I sign up for Medicare Part D drug coverage if I am not currently taking any medications, or can I sign up later when I actually need a prescription? Answer from one of our experts: Yes, and yes. And in the first scenario, you not only can, you should if you believe you will need medications. Again, this seminar is free and sign-up and attendance is as easy as opening your computer. To register for the event, visit https://events.mlive.com/medicare2023 or scan the QR code below.
