First as an actor, and starred in many pivotal shows, from Alex Haley’s 1977 miniseries Roots as Kunta Kinte to Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987 as Geordi La Forge. His entertainment career has taken many forms, but his passion for child literacy led him to develop and host Reading Rainbow, which ran for nearly 25 years and is the subject of the 2022 documentary Butterfly in the Sky. Burton’s belief in the power of reading never waned and this year his podcast, LeVar Burton Reads was named the 2022 Webby Winner for Arts & Culture. To kick off Season 10 of the Webby Podcast, Burton joins the Webby Podcast to talk about his early years, what led him to join Reading Rainbow and more.
