Level Design Summit
The 4D Level Design of 'Outer Wilds'
Alex Beachum - Co-Creative Lead - Mobius Digital
Outer Wilds is a narrative exploration game trapped inside an astrophysics simulation, and the level design is the glue that holds these two seemingly disparate ideas together. We'll investigate our approach to designing levels on planets that change dramatically over time as well as our use of level design to control the pacing and delivery of a nonlinear narrative. In the world of Outer Wilds, "when" you explore matters just as much as "where". Learn More >>

Classic Game Postmortem: 'The 7th Guest'
Graeme Devine - Wandering Wizard - Magic Leap
Rob Landeros - President - Trilobyte Games
George Sanger - Legendary Game Audio Guru - The Fat Man
Trilobyte's classic FMV puzzle adventure game The 7th Guest was viewed as a breakthrough game when it launched in 1993, thanks to its groundbreaking use of full motion video combined with puzzles, and its use of CD-ROM as its storage medium. Video seems everywhere today, but in 1993 when the game debuted, video on your computer was a spectacle, and a horror game that let you explore a haunted house and solve puzzles was a must-have upgrade for many PC owners. The story of the making of The 7th Guest is just as extraordinary, and three members of the original team - Graeme Devine, Rob Landeros, & George 'The Fat Man' Sanger - are reunited for the first time in 20 years to walk us down memory lane one last time. Join us as we travel through the mansion to reminisce and remember the passion, agony, design, and technical impossibility that became The 7th Guest. Learn More >>
