LGBTQ+ health care ban is law

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Gender-affirming care ban: The Legislature has overridden Gov. John Bel Edwards' veto of its bill to ban gender-affirming care for minors, James Finn and Tyler Bridges report. The ban takes effect Jan. 1, 2024. Edwards has predicted the ban will be challenged in court.

Governor's race: Attorney General Jeff Landry is still the No. 1 fundraiser in the governor's race, but others have made significant strides, Sam Karlin reports. State reports out this week show Landry has raised $4.5 milllion in recent months, while Stephen Waguespack has raised about $1.3 million.

AG, other races: Candidates for attorney general and other offices have raised a collective $1.6 million in recent months, Karlin reports. Top fundraisers include Solicitor General Liz Murrill, who is benefiting from money the Republican Attorneys General Association has spent to attack one of her opponents, state Rep. John Stefanski.
