December/January Opening Hours

The Library’s opening hours over the December/January break are below. Loan periods will be adjusted to account for the closures. The digital collection will remain available for loan.

Wednesday, 23 December: 9am – 8pm
Thursday, 24 December: 9am – 12noon
Friday, 25 to Monday, 28 December  CLOSED

Tuesday, 29 December: 9am – 8pm
Wednesday, 30 December: 9am – 8pm
Thursday, 31 December: 9am – 3pm 
Friday, 1 to Sunday, 3 January  CLOSED

Monday, 4 January: Return to normal hours

For Your Information: Storytime and Rhymetime

Christmas Storytime on Tuesday, 15 December will be the final session for 2015.
Storytime will recommence in 2016 on Tuesday, 2 February at 9.30am.

Our final Rhymetime sessions for 2015 will be held on Friday, 11 December.
Rhymetime will recommence in 2016 on Friday, 5 February at 9am & 10am.

Table Tennis Bats and Balls Available

December Book Clubs

Our two Library Book Clubs have been reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and Still Alice by Lisa Genova. If you’ve read either book and wish to join in the discussion, please join us for our final Book Club meetings in 2015:

Proofreading Party

Practical proofreading for writers!

Friday, 11 December
6pm – 8pm

Free event, bookings essential
BOOK HERE or call 9373 5500
Includes light refreshments.
Bring along a hardcopy extract or sample chapter from your writing to proofread during the party.

Author and publisher Rebecca Laffar-Smith will give a short presentation explaining proofreading marks, common mistakes and words to watch, how to create your own style guide, as well as tips and advice for self-editing and proofreading.

You will be given a practise exercise and then ‘let loose’ to proofread your own writing. Rebecca and former professional proofreader, Britt Ingerson, will be on-hand to answer any questions you have about the editing process.

Christmas Storytime

Tuesday, 15 December
9.30am – 10.30am

Tickets must be presented on the day.
For children aged two – six years

Victoria Park Library invites you to join us for a very special Christmas Storytime!

Special guest Mayor Trevor Vaughan, will share a story followed by entertainment from Fairy Queen Caroline and a visit from Father Christmas.

Summer Reading Club

The Summer Reading Club runs from 1 December to 31 January so pick up a book and get ready to join in the adventure these school holidays.

Pick up a Participation Pack at the Library and borrow up to 12 books. Fill in the raffle ticket (inside your pack) and return it to the Library before 5 February to be in the draw to win a special prize pack of great books!

Sunlight by Einstein's Top Secret Science

The Sunlight program has a sun safe message with activities based around light and colour. Make your own bracelet using beads that change colour when exposed to UV light and discover the colours of the rainbow with our light refraction glasses!

Eco Environment by Einstein's Top Secret Science

The Eco Environment program explores natural products and their uses. Create an artistic master piece with Corn ‘Nuudles’ and discover what is biodegradable. Other activities include water storage crystals and their use in our environment as well as artificial snow!

Meet three native raptors (birds of prey) up close! Learn about their unique features and adaptions, as well as the daily threats they face in sharing the world with people.

Felted Faces with Lousie Snook

Western Australian based artist, Louise Snook, specialises in felt making and will show you how to create your own felt face!
