Lighting Controls Association Announces New Course on Lighting Control Protocols The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) now offers EE305: Protocols as a new course in its popular Education Express program. A lighting control protocol enforces the rules luminaires and devices use to communicate. One can ensure compatibility by reviewing which protocols are used in the lighting control system. A lighting controls design may not begin with a specific protocol in mind, but due to the constraints of each protocol, some protocols may be ideal while others may not. Authored by C. Webster Marsh, HLB Lighting Design, EE305: Lighting Control Protocols surveys available protocols, how they work in a lighting control system, and specification considerations. This course is registered with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education System (CES) for Learning Units (LU)/Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) credits, and the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) for Lighting Education Units (LEUs). It is also required reading to prepare for NALMCOâs Certified Lighting Controls Professional (CLCP) certification exam.
