NEEA Studies Luminaire-Level Lighting Controls

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) recently published a study seeking to compare one-for-one luminaire level lighting control (LLLC) retrofits with a comprehensive networked lighting controls (NLC) redesign.

Conducted by the University of Oregon, the study found that a one-for-one LLLC upgrade produced comparable energy savings and lighting quality at a competitive cost.

Lighting Controls Association Announces New Course on Integrating Lighting Control and Building Systems

The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) now offers EE115: Lighting Controls and Building Automation Integration as a new course in its popular Education Express program

With increasing frequency, lighting control systems are tasked to interoperate with other building systems such as building automation systems (BAS) to share information and automate building functionality. Ensuring communication and smooth interoperability is called integration, a potentially challenging undertaking during a project.

Authored by C. Webster Marsh, HLB Lighting Design, the course defines today’s integration, how building automation systems are designed, and considerations for specifying integration between a lighting control and a building automation system.

Lighting Controls Association Posts Free Webinar on Tunable-White Lighting

Presented by Craig DiLouie, LC, CLCP, education director for the Lighting Controls Association, this 30-minute webinar provides a deep overview of tunable-white lighting, a relatively new dimension of LED lighting control that is pioneering new capabilities and applications. Topics include benefits and applications, advantages and disadvantages, color basics, the different types of color-tunable lighting, hardware and protocols, specification issues, and more.

Lighting Controls Association and Endeavor Business Media Announce New Awards

Endeavor Business Media and the Lighting Controls Association (LCA) are pleased to announce their collaboration agreement on Strategies in Light and its Sapphire Awards program. The Sapphire Awards will be held on June 23, 2021 at the Club Auto Sport in San Jose, CA.

Through this collaboration, the Sapphire Awards has announced the addition of an “Design Excellence in Networked Lighting Control Award,” sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association. The award will recognize excellence in design projects that use networked lighting controls/connected lighting. Additional design awards related to lighting and control may be announced.

The award sponsorship is one element in a larger collaborative effort in which Endeavor will tap the lighting control industry’s expertise for its premier award, conference, editorial, and research programs.

More information, such as how to enter the awards competition, will be available soon.

Lighting Controls Association Posts Free Webinar on Automatic Plug Load Control

Controlling plug loads is a natural extension for lighting control, as the same strategies and devices used for automatic switching of general lighting can be deployed for plug load control either at the receptacle or circuit level. Authored by Craig DiLouie, LC, CLCP, education director for the Lighting Controls Association, this webinar provides an overview of approaches used to automatically control plug loads in commercial buildings. Topics include code requirements, strategies, devices, system integration, and key decision-making points.
