Where people are on watch…Rafah. This morning, Israel seized control of the southern Gaza city's border crossing. This comes after they began striking targets in the southern Gaza city, with Palestinian hospital officials saying several people were killed. Israel began an attack on eastern Rafah yesterday, which came less than a day after Hamas accepted an Egyptian-Qatari cease-fire proposal and after Israel ordered about 100,000 Palestinians to evacuate, indicating that an offensive could be imminent. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that although Hamas’s proposal is “far” from meeting the country’s demands, it would still continue talks to “exhaust the possibility of reaching an agreement.” His office also said that Israel will proceed with its operation in Rafah to release hostages and destroy Hamas.
Who’s going to have to pay up again…Former President Trump. Yesterday, the judge overseeing Trump’s hush money trial fined the former president another $1,000 for once again violating a gag order. It marks the second time the judge held him in contempt of court since the trial got underway three weeks ago. This time, Trump violated the gag order — which bars him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff or their families in the case — by saying the jury was “95% Democrats” and picked too quickly. The judge warned that Trump could face jail time, potentially a maximum of 30 days, if there were more gag order violations.
Where florals were actually groundbreaking…The Met Gala. Yesterday, celebrities ascended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s steps for this year’s “The Garden of Time” theme. Gigi Hadid and Nicki Minaj literally blossomed. Lana Del Rey branched out. Cardi B and Tyla got carried away. Zendaya showed off not one, but two looks. There were butterflies, fairy ears, and AI fakes. Oh and a wet T-shirt dress. Notably missing were Rihanna and Blake Lively. Meanwhile, NYPD officers arrested several pro-Palestinian protesters near the event.
