As a kid, drawing and painting were a window into a new world for me. And part of why I paint the landscape has its roots in memories of summer vacations in Northern Minnesota where I grew up. I know that part of who I am has its roots in that rich, Midwestern soil. Surrounded by trees, I can breathe deeper and recall what matters...the importance of being outdoors, experiencing what nature has to offer, and sharing it with family. And even though the beaches and woodlands of the Southern California landscape are beautiful where we live now, I feel most at home surrounded by tall pine woods and sparkling, freshwater lakes.
I fell in love with art at a young age. I studied art in college but didn't pursue it as a career. Years later, after having a family and loving that work, I was given the chance to create art again. So far, it has been a rich and wonderful journey...and there's still so much to learn! I work whole-heartedly at my craft and find purpose and meaning through this work. I know that artistic ability is a God-given gift and I strive to create art that speaks to both the heart and the mind, with God's creation as my inspiration.
Why do I want to make art? I am inspired to magnify the beauty of the natural world and our connection to it, approaching nature more spiritually, as a reflection of God's hand in all of creation. I paint in an impressionistic style, and my goal is to capture the honesty, genuineness, and beauty of the landscape...in hopes you might discover a window into a whole new world, by experiencing nature in this way.
