Little lost sea lion is off on her new adventure By Heather McRea | This week in Coast Lines: With roadside assistance from the CHP and a restful few weeks, one lost sea lion pup is headed on the right path.
Plus, grey whales are migrating but volunteers can’t gather at Point Vicente to see if they are doing better this year, and Newport Beach leaders, typically welcoming of visitors, are driving home the message that people need to stay home amid the coronavirus outbreak by shutting down a popular way to vacation in town.

We'll never know why the sea lion pup was trying to cross the road – actually the busy 710 Freeway – but thanks to some CHP officers and an animal rescue group, she survived her no-joke of an adventure.
Now fattened up and rested, she’s been given a clean bill of health.
And the path of her new journey points away from traffic.

Feeling crowded by visitors during the coronavirus outbreak, Newport Beach is making it harder to come on down and stay awhile at the beachfront community.
Short-term rentals are being shut down while the virus threatens to spread.
“It lays on all of us to do all we can to send a message ‘Please stay home,’” Councilman Brad Avery said. “Don’t come to Newport Beach. Take a month and give us a pass … this is not the time.”

Grey whales are making their annual swim north, but for the first time in a long time there isn't intense scrutiny of their activities.
The cliffs of Rancho Palos Verdes would typically be manned this time of year with rotating teams of volunteers, binoculars trained on the sea, watching as the whales pass.
But the coronavirus stay-at-home orders mean no one is watching, so how will we know how the whales are doing?
