Good morning Marketer, planning to attend any live events this year?

According to a survey we conducted last week, 66% of marketers said they would not be attending any conferences or live events this year unless a vaccine for COVID-19 becomes available. Out of the more than 250 responses, just 4 out of 10 said they would attend a conference before the end of 2020.

The survey results aren’t surprising. The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for event-driven businesses, with many companies (including ours) moving to virtual platforms. But, as our own VP of Content Henry Powderly notes, “The value and experience for attendees, exhibitors, speakers and marketers is hard to replicate in a webinar platform.” Still, the uncertainty of when in-person events will return is a looming concern for many of us — what will such events look like? And who will feel safe attending? In the coming weeks, we’ll be resurfacing our survey to get a better understanding of these questions.

Is your team currently using any enterprise project management or workflow platforms? Marketing and MOPs projects make for “ideal use cases” for such tools – even more so now that everyone is working remotely.

Not only do project management and workflow tools help keep projects on track and moving forward, but they also lend an elevated level of transparency and accountability, says MarTech Today research director Pamela Parker. She says the impact of COVID-19 on businesses will likely spur even greater interest in these solutions. We’ve put together a comprehensive guide of enterprise project management tools that include 15 vendor profiles for anyone currently looking into solutions.

Facebook gives advertisers access to more brand safety tools

As part of Facebook’s continued efforts to improve brand safety and transparency, the company yesterday announced the expanded availability of brand safety tools that give advertisers more control over where their ads appear within publisher content. Chief among the updates include:

  • Publisher whitelists for the Audience Network, allowing advertisers to designate which third-party publisher apps to run ads on.
  • Content whitelists that enable whitelisting at the video-level for advertisers working with Integral Ad Science, OpenSlate and Zefr. It allows third-party partners to dynamically review and customize suitable videos for in-stream campaigns.
  • New delivery reports that provide advertisers with impression data at the publisher and content levels. The reports provide greater transparency into which individual pieces of content their ads were delivered in to better evaluate brand safety risks of placements and publishers.
  • Live stream exclusions that let advertisers opt-out of in-stream ads in live streams from vetted partners. This was previously offered this at the campaign level, but is now accessible at the ad account level.

Why we care: With programmatic advertising, how ads appear in the wild (or in this case, on Facebook’s platforms and Audience Network) and the challenges around ad fraud and viewability are valid concerns for brands. Facebook’s move to add more brand safety controls should be a welcome signal for advertisers who expect a high-quality ecosystem of content, publishers, and ads.
