The Sound seems like a good concept. Short performances from a variety of artists will hopefully pull in a diverse crew of music lovers.
Variety in music is always a good thing, but on TV it is key. It makes for well-rounded programming, but also helps bring in larger audiences.
You might tune in to watch Nick Cave, someone half your age might tune in for BENEE, and your older brother might only be there for Mark Seymour. Across a whole country of disparate music lovers, those numbers add up.
It's also never too late to change your perspective on an artist, and forced exposure can help broaden your mind. For instance, Music From The Home Front gave me
a new appreciation for DMA's (who are also on The Sound this week).
Whether the show is a source of discovery, reminiscence, or just a distraction from what is going on in life right now, let's hope it hits the mark. And let's hope heaps of people watch it, so calls for more music on TV aren't ignored.
