Obtaining accurate documentation for coding “simple” pneumonia isn’t so simple. In fall 2019, the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Thoracic Society published treatment and diagnosis guidelines for pneumonia. The problem, however, is the discrepancy between the coding language and the diagnostic reality, often leads to an over-classification of pneumonias as “simple pneumonias.”
Join ACDIS Advisory Board member Kelly Sutton, MHL, RN, CCDS, and Catherine Sheika, CCDS, CDI educator for Central Florida South region of AdventHealth on this 60-minute informative webinar road trip down the pneumonia pathway. During this session, CDI and coding staff will learn to assist providers in accurately documenting this complex disease process and understand how capturing the specificity of this condition can affect quality and mortality data. |

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: |
| | Identify opportunities for specificity of pneumonia |
| | | | Examine the pneumonia pathway in case scenarios to select the type/specificity of pneumonia |
| | Demonstrate compliant clarification construction for pneumonia opportunities |
| | | | Major complications/comorbid conditions (MCC)fd |
