State Sen. Jamie Raskin (D-Montgomery) has defeated Republican Dan Cox in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, a seat being vacated by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), the Associated Press projected. Raskin has promised to bring to Congress the legislative agenda he pursued in Annapolis, including a ban on assault-style weapons, and has called for a tax on carbon emissions and a public works program to repair roads and other infrastructure.
