$1.6m City-wide CCTV project to boost safety

We've just finished installing 23 additional CCTV cameras throughout Coolbellup, six in Manning Park, and three at the Yangebup Pump Track. This is the first part of a five-year program to increase our community’s sense of security across Cockburn.

South Lake, Eliza Ponds and the Port Coogee bus stop are next in line. The exact timeline for further suburbs depends on our annual budgeting priorities, competing projects, and the economic climate. Once the current project is finished, there will be approximately 1,400 CCTV cameras around Cockburn.

If you want to take your own security a step further, apply for our CCTV Rebate Program and get up to 50 per cent off a new or upgraded CCTV system (up to $500 rebate). Seniors can access the Seniors Security Rebate for a wider range of security options, including CCTV (up to $500 rebate), roller shutters (up to $300) and alarms, sensors, or security screens (up to $200 rebate).

Everybody needs good neighbours

Congratulations to Hammond Park Primary School students who completed the Cockburn Junior Neighbourhood Watch Program last month.

The four-week program, which is a joint initiative between City of Cockburn, WA Police and Neighbourhood Watch, aims to build positive relationships with emergency services, the police, CoSafe, neighbours, teachers and local businesses.

Students learnt about road safety when riding or walking to school, graffiti and personal safety, looking out for each other and how to report things that are not right in our community.

During the last session students wrote letters to their neighbours asking them to look out for their school and to report anything untoward.
