An Energy-Saving Alternative

Comparative Energy Analysis of Desiccant Technologies in Indoor Cannabis Cultivation and How to Create a Durable Competitive Cost Advantage |
Liquid Desiccant Air Conditioning and Dehumidification (LDAC) has emerged as an energy-saving alternative design for applications that require high moisture removal—and one that has fully demonstrated the potential to provide significant energy savings when applied to broader markets. Because of these demonstrated efficiencies, new ASHRAE Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) will promote the use of desiccant-based systems at applications at or below 40-45% RH in the near future. This webinar will review the technologies and resultant energy analysis of a variety of dehumidification and climate control solutions installed at a cannabis cultivation facility, provide resultant energy analyses of each with operating cost estimates, and discuss advantages of investing in energy efficiency. One specific application that requires significant moisture removal is the indoor cultivation of legal cannabis, and controlled environment agriculture as a whole. It is estimated by the DOE that by the end of this decade, electrical energy usage by indoor cannabis operations will be on par with the electrical energy consumed by either data centers or for the recharging of electrical vehicles. As such, more efficient and economical methods of climate control are necessary for more widespread application in cannabis operations to reduce the energy requirements, which are under some scrutiny. Added emphasis should be on methods to first reduce the energy required before building the electrical generating infrastructure to support such growing industries. More >>> |
