Supremely summery things to do this month in London

Got some space in your social calendar this July? If not, you better make some because we've found a few dozen events to help you squeeze the most out of summer in London. Let's start with some al fresco fun: choose between outdoor cinema screenings, summer fetes, boat races, and all sorts of open air music and theatre.

Prefer to soak up some culture away from the heat? (Or the rain... this is London, after all.) There's plenty of fun to be had indoors, too — such as a celebration of Japanese culture at Olympia London, the new Black Venus exhibition at Somerset House, and a new milky way VR experience at the Royal Institution. If it's really sweltering outside, you can even take drastic measures and disappear down a Victorian ice well, at London Canal Museum's open weekend.

Whatever the weather, summer calls for a nice cold beverage, possibly of the adult variety. If you're feeling spontaneous, City Beerfest takes place today (6 July) in Guildhall Yard, or there's Cocktails In The City from now through to Sunday. Gastronomes are also well-catered for this month, with a new food hall set to launch and festivals celebrating a wide range of cuisines.
