Festival Wrapped: Your Favorite Sessions from 2024

As the Aspen Ideas Festival wraps up its 20th year, we’re excited to share the 20 most-watched sessions from our June gathering. Leaders including Open AI CEO Sam Altman, actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Governor of Utah Spencer Cox, writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, artist Hank Willis Thomas, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, journalist Kara Swisher, former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and more addressed today’s biggest issues, from building responsible A.I. and addressing humanitarian crises around the world to healing social divides and reforming the criminal justice system. We also covered topics that are simply fascinating and fun — the latest in space exploration, mysteries of the ocean, new breakthroughs in helping our pets live longer and much more.

The 2024 Aspen Ideas Festival Staff Picks are here! Think of it as a backstage pass to the pop culture we loved this year — shows and movies we devoured, books we got lost in, music that moved us, podcasts that kept us company. We’ve also included a more serious nod to the Festival sessions we’re still talking about. Take a peek and see what sparked our imagination this year — we bet you’ll find a few new favorites, too.

The Element

In this gem from our archive, the late Sir Ken Robinson discusses how finding your passion changes everything. He argues that people feel most themselves and are most inspired when they find what he calls “the element” — that point where natural talent meets passion. In this talk from the 2010 Aspen Ideas Festival, Robinson uses his wry sense of humor and keen eye for life’s ups and downs to encourage us to shy away from conformity and not worry about linearity. Robinson was an educator, writer and advisor who advocated for a revolution in our education systems that he hoped would truly honor human nature.
