Looking Past Labels

Here’s what Aitina Fareed-Cooke wants you to know: You are more than labels.

As a little girl in the foster care system, Fareed-Cooke was labeled "failure to thrive." Born to a mother who was addicted to drugs, Fareed-Cooke was considered to be emotionally handicapped. And yet, God’s plan told another story.

On a new episode of Where Ya From?, recording artist Fareed-Cooke shares how God redeemed her life through an adoptive mother, passion for creating, and an unplanned pregnancy. She talks about the ways that she has resisted labels throughout her life, choosing instead to find peace and purpose through her faith in Christ and her voice within the creative arts.

May Fareed-Cooke’s story encourage us to remember that no matter what the world says about who we are, God says we are made in his image and created with dignity.
