Let’s be honest - most recipe images on blogs are so perfectly staged and beautiful that they look nothing like the real thing. 

This food styling method can also exclude family favorite dishes that aren’t the prettiest to photograph (or maybe even to look at) but taste THE BEST.

Recipes like this usually fall into the hearty comfort food category, which just happens to be one of my favorite culinary categories. 🥘 It's kinda hard not to love comfort food when you live in the Midwest, ha!

Early in my blogging career, I had a lovely food writer who wrote up a casserole recipe described by many as, “Cowboy Casserole – looks like dog food – tastes delicious.” 😂

And it’s true. This casserole isn't the cutest visually, but it’s one of our top recipes because it’s easy, hearty, and best of all - relatable to authentic home cooking.

So, today, let's celebrate the unsung ugly-but-delicious recipe heroes!

May they garner the same attention and equality as all dishes. 👊
