Loomis speaks

Good morning, folks. Welcome to the Tuesday, Jan. 14 edition of the Saints Insiders newsletter — where we have a Mickey Loomis press conference to dive into.

Loomis thoughts

We discussed our takeaways on the Saints Insider podcast, but I'll recap my thoughts quickly here: That press conference did little to ease the concerns who have been long frustrated by the last few year's of Loomis tenure.

But in reality, nothing short of "I'm resigning" would have pleased those fans. And as our Jeff Duncan writes, Loomis isn't going anywhere in 2025.

I also thought Loomis' approach was interesting to that presser, specifically with how he towed the line between accepting what had gone wrong and how he doesn't view the Saints' situation as desire as outside pundits.

For instance, I asked him why Saints fans should have confidence the team is going to get this next coaching search right.

"Because we've gotten it right before," Loomis said.

McCarthy available

An interesting development unfolded Monday as Loomis spoke to the media: The Dallas Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy.

It may be too soon to declare the coach — a former Saints offensive coordinator — a front runner for the job, but our Luke Johnson explains why New Orleans could very well have interest in McCarthy.

He's a wanted man, pt. 2

Speaking of interest, the Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Seahawks have interest in Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for the same job — and Loomis indicated that the team has no plans to block it.

Luke wrote about how while the Saints' assistants have jobs for now, nothing is guaranteed after the next coach is hired.

Allen draws interest

Speaking of interviews, former Saints coach Dennis Allen will get a shot at interviewing to become the next defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. That's not a surprise considering Allen's acumen as a defensive coach, even if his head coaching tenure didn't go as planned.

Anyway, that's all for now. We'll have plenty of more coming this week based on Loomis' presser, and we'll keep you up to date on the Saints' coaching search. Thanks for reading as always.

Take care,

Matthew Paras
