After a brilliant team performance in yesterday's opening prologue, placing five riders in the top ten, Team DSM continued their great start to the Baloise Ladies Tour as Lorena Wiebes powered to a dominant sprint win.
Controlling the stage from the start, the team set out with a plan of keeping things under control and riding well as a unit to set up fast finisher Wiebes in the finale. Esmée Peperkamp, Francesca Barale and Léa Curinier did a great job to keep the numerous breakaways and attacks in check; making the final catch at seven kilometres to go. Moving forward en masse, the team peeled off one-by-one as they increased the pace, stringing things out before it became hectic. Keeping a cool head, Pfeiffer Georgi piloted Wiebes perfectly; coming to the front at the right moment and putting the power down, ensuring no other lead outs came over the top. After Georgi pulled off, Wiebes launched a powerful sprint in the final 200 metres, sitting up as she crossed the line to celebrate a brilliant team win, and as a result moves into the race lead.
