Los Angeles August 12, 2020 Letter from the editor: Over the past few months there has been a lot of discussion around how to photograph protests and protect people's identities. This week, writer Anne Wallentine talks with the Los Angeles-based photographer Alexis Hunley about her images of local Black Lives Matter protests, Juneteenth celebrations, and beyond. As Wallentine writes, Hunley captures "the full spectrum of actions and emotions" that happen at these events, including, in Hunley's words, “moments of joy and love.” The artist stresses, “Black photographers have been documenting our stories, they just haven’t been […] given the recognition that they deserve. We’ve been here.” The Society of Architectural Historians, Southern California Chapter (SAH/SCC) has a great new series called In Case You Missed It, in which they revive popular past programming for an online audience. This Saturday, Stuart W. Leslie will talk about the legacy of Cold War architecture in Southern California. Matt Stromberg gives a fascinating sneak peek. “I needed to see Black people just being gentle and loving each other in front of me. Instead of another video of somebody being murdered,” says Alexis Hunley. Anne Wallentine Event Pick This Saturday, Stuart W.
