This week in LA news, the owner of a prison telecom company resigns from LACMA’s board after public pressure, and the Academy Museum (whose opening date keeps getting pushed back) acquires a remarkable collection of pre-cinematic objects — the magic lanterns are especially beautiful. We also look at Frank Gehry’s one-billion dollar luxury complex, which is languishing across from his Walt Disney Concert Hall. Amplifying Incarcerated Voices

Art programs for imprisoned people make a difference.This is the resounding message of “Share the Mic: Incarcerated Arts,” hosted by LA’s Fowler Museum. This Saturday from 12 to 1:15pm, various leaders of such programs will talk about their work and how museums and cultural institutions can “destigmatize and center incarcerated voices.”

Activists had been targeting Gores since 2017, when his firm purchased a telecom company that manages phone systems at thousands of prisons.The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library have received the world’s foremost collection of pre-cinematic technology and toys.
