Los Angeles July 1, 2020 Letter from the editor: This week, Sam Lefebvre has some breaking news from San Francisco. Nan Keeton, the Deputy Director of External Relations at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), is stepping down from her position after censoring former Black communications employee Taylor Brandon when she spoke out against institutional racism at the museum. "It is the first high-level staffing change to emerge from the institution’s reckoning with what critics call pronounced structural inequities," Lefebvre writes. Looking ahead to the long weekend, if you're searching for some safe entertainment, I recommend good old streaming. Nan Keeton, Deputy Director of External Relations, resigned weeks after the museum came under public scrutiny for censoring the comments of Taylor Brandon. Theadora Walsh While the series often falters, season two feels less self-conscious about its status in this iconic franchise, and more willing to simply be itself. Dan Schindel While Da 5 Bloods has its weaknesses, it hits the nail on the head with its portrayal of the complicated nature of Blackness and brotherhood. Melinda Fakuade This week includes recipes for pasta with slow cooked chickpeas and flan with dulce de leche from curators Laura Raicovich and Aimé Iglesias Lukin, and more. Valentina Di Liscia In this ongoing series, curators and members of the Native arts community share five artists they were looking forward to seeing at the 2020 Indian Market, which has been postponed to 2021.
