Louisiana abortion ban unchanged after House debate

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Abortion ban: The state House has killed attempts to soften Louisiana's abortion ban to account for ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages, James Finn reports. Another bill to allow the terminations of "medically-futile pregnancies" was shelved, but could be revived with amendments.

LGBTQ+ bills: Transgender youth would be barred from receiving gender-affirming care under a bill that cleared the state House Tuesday, Finn reports. The controversial bill is one of several proposed this session that affect the rights of LGBTQ+ residents.

Legislative pay: State lawmakers will continue to earn a minimum of $16,800 a year, after a House panel shot down an attempt to raise pay for the first time in four decades, Tyler Bridges reports. Supporters said the raises could lure more public servants, but critics said the bill would anger the public in an election year.
