What's making news in Baton Rouge...

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

A surge in coronavirus cases that has been ravaging parts of the country for the past two weeks has arrived in Louisiana. The state Department of Health today reported a sharp increase in the number of infections. Gov. John Bel Edwards has a news conference set for 3 p.m. Central.

If you don't give one iota about tropical weather any more, you should. A depression in the Caribbean Sea is expected to become Tropical Storm Iota. (Insert your groan because of the pun here.) This would be the 30th named storm of the season.

And East Baton Rouge's prosecutor says his office won't handle the case of a pediatrician accused of striking a Southern University student while jogging this week. It turns out there is someone on the district attorney's staff who is related to the doctor.

It's shaping up to be a busy news day. Stick around for more.
