The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. Here are some of the top stories from the weekend so far …

'Our legs for the day'

At the starting line of Louisiana Marathon races, you’ll see runners dressed in pink, stretching, getting ready to push special pink wheelchairs for the length of the race. They're part of a group that pairs runners with disabled people in street races throughout the U.S.

As one volunteer put it in this story, "We give them our legs for the day."

Shootings in BR

Four people were wounded in two separate shootings in Baton Rouge from late Friday through the middle of Saturday. One took place at a convenience store, the other at someone's home.

Elyse Carmosino has the details.

Staffing crisis

Louisiana's nursing homes face skyrocketing coronavirus cases among residents and employees, worsening an already dire staffing crisis and creating worry among advocates. Faimon Roberts interviewed the folks in charge of these facilities to find out how they're coping with the latest COVID surge.

Here's his story.

We appreciate your checking in with us today. Have a great Sunday.
