Louisiana's population lags that of other states

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Population woes: Louisiana's population has flatlined as thousands of people have left the state for better opportunities, Faimon Roberts III reports. That has created a vicious cycle: if fewer people are here to grow the economy, the economy remains stagnant. And states with stagnant economies struggle to attract newcomers.

Port of South LA: The Port of South Louisiana's plan to buy the former Avondale shipyard is uncertain after a state board grilled Port officials about the plan and delayed their consideration of it by a month, Sam Karlin reports. The $330 million plan would revitalize river commerce on the West Bank, port leaders have said.

Fish spills: Pogy boats spilled roughly 850,000 dead fish in the Gulf of Mexico near Cameron Parish last week, sparking calls for reforms to Louisiana's menhaden industry, Tristan Baurick reports. The dead menhaden and redfish soon began washing up on Holly Beach. Fish companies say their nets ripped accidentally.
