Limiting protest: Bills that would limit public protest in Louisiana have cleared legislative hurdles and are close to being passed. Taken together, the legislation would create a 25-foot buffer zone around police, ban picketing at homes, exempt from civil liability motorists who hit pedestrians in some circumstances, expand penalties for obstructing highways and make rioting and other offenses subject to racketeering laws. Meghan Friedmann has the details. Stunt driving arrests: A Louisiana State Police unit dedicated to New Orleans touted the arrest of three men for allegedly organizing street "takeovers," where dirt bike and ATV drivers shut down intersections to perform dangerous stunts. John Simerman has this report. Abortion pill ban: State lawmakers also advanced a bill that would classify two medications used for abortion and other reproductive care as controlled dangerous substances.
