If you dream of someday seeing the Northern Lights, 2024 might be your lucky year. Sightings of the aurora borealis have been on the rise, and they will increase as we move into the new year. Why? According to experts at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, in 2024 the sun will reach what’s known as “solar maximum:” the peak of an 11-year cycle when the sun’s north and south poles switch places, causing the energy outbursts that create the Northern Lights to become stronger and more frequent. |
