Michigan’s amazing sunsets – why they are better here

A few days last week had stellar, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Why is Michigan a top spot for stunning sunrise and sunset shots? Well, Michigan is one of only two states with the ability to get a sunrise over the water and a sunset over the water. The sun dipping below the watery horizon is just a start to a great picture. Then you have to consider our ever-changing sky with Michigan's unique clouds and landmarks. Try to find the combination of all of these features, and you can’t do it except in Michigan.

A sign of spring is already here

For proof that the seasons are truly changing, just listen for the unmistakable song of the red-winged blackbird. The earliest of them start showing up in southern Michigan in mid- to late February, and by mid-March they can be seen and heard across most of the state.

Can you make it to the top?

For those who forget, the Great Lakes state does indeed have mountains and those summits provide spectacular views of the surrounding areas. There are two popular mountains within a short drive of downtown Marquette: Sugarloaf and Hogback.
