| Today's Top 10 Stories | | #1 | | LRG: Almost 60% of U.S. Homes Subscribe to a SVOD Service | | | | According to a new study from Leichtman Research Group, roughly 60% of U.S. homes have a subscription to a VOD service such as Netflix, Amazon or Hulu, up from 47% in 2014. LRG also said 47% of SVOD homes subscribe to more than one service.
Why This Matters: LRG found that SVOD has become a core viewing component among non-pay TV homes about 70% of those non-subs with a TV take an SVOD service, compared to 57% of homes that take a pay TV service.

| | #2 | | Telus Rolls Out Ultra-HD in Western Canada | | | | Canadian telco Telus announced that it is launching Ultra-HD TV services via its Optik TV platform in British Columbia and Alberta. At launch, the 4K lineup will include TSN 4K, "adrenaline sports" on demand, Stingray Ambiance and various on-demand movies and Optik local productions.
Why This Matters: Customers will require a 4K TV, a 4K PVR, as well as the companys Internet 50 service to support 4K streaming. TELUSs new 4K PVRs will store up to 400 hours of HD content, or up to 100 hours of 4K content. The 4K PVRs are available at no additional cost with a two-year commitment.

| | #3 | | Parks: Majority of U.S. OTT Services Are Subscription Only | | | | According to a new report from Parks Associates, the majority of OTT services in North America are available by subscription only.
Why This Matters: The analysts OTT Video Market Tracker shows that the number of services with advertising-reliant business models has declined, due to low ad revenues and lack of viewership and that 55% of OTT services in the U.S. currently have a subscription-only business model, such as Netflix or Hulu.
