#1 LRG Study: 69% of U.S. Homes Connect a TV to Internet
According to a new study from Leichtman Research Group, some 69% of U.S. TV homes now have at least one TV set connected to the Internet via an integrated smart TV, stand-alone streaming devices from companies such as Google, Roku, Apple and Amazon, or connected Blu-ray players, up from 50% in 2014 and 24% in 2010.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The study based on a survey of 1,204 adults in U.S. TV homes also found that 76% of homes with connected TV devices have more than one device connected, and a mean of 3.5 per connected TV homes. Across all households (including those that do not have TVs connected), the mean number of connected TV devices per household is 2.4. The mean number of pay TV set-top boxes per household is 1.7, the firm said.

#2 Comcast Adds 42,000 Video Subscribers
Comcast reported on Thursday that it added 42,000 video subscribers (residential and business) in Q1 2017, its third straight quarter of basic video growth. Comcast ended the period with 22.5 million total video customers, fueled by an increase of 32,000 video subscribers on the residential side and 10,000 business video additions.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Last year, Comcast reported its first full year of basic video customer growth in a decade, adding a total of 161,000 video subscribers. Execs in its earnings call pointed to options such as advanced content offerings and voice control for X1 as some of the reasons consumers are taking up the service in an era of cord cutting.

#3 Altice USA Peeks Over-the-Top
In an NAB keynote session moderated by Multichannel News and B&C editorial director Mark Robichaux, Altice USA chief Dexter Goei said that he is talking to programmers about possibly adding access to non-linear OTT content to the cable companys lineup.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Goei said that integrating some OTT content is the logical next step. While it appears that Altice would offer non-linear shows in concert with its traditional line-up instead of as a replacement or in a separate package, it shows that the Altice USA CEO is ready and willing to think outside the box.

Quote Of The Day

The torturing of the 1934 Communications Act to force it to accommodate the Internet has been painful to watch. Rather than viewing the FCC as abandoning the field, we should encourage them to make way for congressional action to once and for all set the rules for digital economy and legacy telecom cooperation.
