Is Atchafalaya bridge speed limit too high?

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

Thanks for joining us today. Here's what's happening:

Basin speed

A state legislator says something has to be done about speeders on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge carrying Interstate 10. A number of recent accidents has snarled traffic, and he believes that tougher enforcement might make the road safer.

Loose lips

The head of the State Police tried to suspend a staff lawyer for talking out of school about her look at a series of traffic stops involving Troop F in north Louisiana, including one that ended with the death of a motorist. Her punishment was overturned yesterday on procedural grounds. Had it stood, it would have been more than twice as long as that given to a trooper who dragged Ronald Greene by his shackled feet.

Homicide trial opens

Jury selection is underway for the alleged killer of an LSU basketball player. The defendant is hoping to see the trial moved from Baton Rouge, but as Joe Gyan explains, it appears prospective jurors don't know too much about the case.
