If there's one thing we've learned about Jay Johnson in his first year at LSU, it's that he's all baseball all the time. But it was another sport that shaped his life as a young age and still influences him to this day: football. "Don't get me wrong," Johnson told our Wilson Alexander. "I love being a baseball coach — but I wish I was a high-level Division I football coach.” Find out more about Johnson's roots in the game here. Meanwhile at the beach: • The SEC Spring Meeting rolls on in Destin, Florida. Finally the talk about Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban's feud is over (mostly) and the focus is back on the No. 1 issue at this meeting: football rescheduling with Texas and Oklahoma joining the league. Scott Rabalais gives you some examples of potential formats and tell you who LSU's permanent opponent(s) might be. You may or may not be thrilled. • In our SEC notebook, Brian Kelly talks about why the time was right to leave Notre Dame, Fisher gives his thoughts on the Saban saga (see, we told you it was only mostly over), we talk to Kim Mulkey and more (don't you just love "and more?"). Back at the ballpark: • Our Patrick Magee breaks down the field in the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional featuring LSU, Southern Miss, Kennessaw State and Army. Much more to come this week from Hattiesburg, Destin and elsewhere. Thanks for reading, and we'll see you tomorrow. |
