LSU baseball is back

Friday was LSU baseball media day at Alex Box Stadium, with the start of the season three weeks away for the No. 1-ranked Tigers on Feb. 17.

Our Leah Vann has all the angles covered from The Box, including an article about something the Tigers' didn't always have in abundance last year: depth.

Other LSU baseball content includes:'

  • Second-year coach Jay Johnson says Jordan Thompson will start at shortstop.
  • The Tigers have their Friday night pitching starter. Click here to find out who it is.
  • Johnson gives an injury update on the Tigers.
  • A media day photo gallery.

Men's basketball is back at its quest to snap its ever-growing losing streak which is now at seven games. Saturday the Tigers host Texas Tech at the PMAC, both teams trying to use their berth in the final SEC/Big 12 Challenge to get a win they hope will turn their seasons around.

Sunday of course is Championship Sunday in the NFL, with the 49ers taking on the Eagles for the NFC championship and the Bengals taking on the Chiefs for the AFC title. Success has vaulted former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow into elite territory, giving him a chance to be considered the top quarterback in the game with a Cincinnati win over the Chiefs. There's also something that he can be the first someone to do with a win in the Super Bowl as well.

The LSU women's basketball team recently made a visit to the state prison at Angola. Jim Kleinpeter has a story about the Tigers' "educational" trip there. The No. 4-ranked Tigers return to action Monday against Tennessee in a sold out game at the PMAC.

The LSU gymnastics team went to Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Friday to face Arkansas. The No. 8-ranked Tigers had their second-best score of the season and will improve their season average, but the dual meet was still a loss to Arkansas by a 197.475-197.250 count.

It was a good day in Fayetteville for the LSU track team, which came up with a winning performance from Favour Ofili in the Razorback Invitational.

That's all for now. Enjoy your sports weekend everyone.
