LSU CWS info: game time, TV, opponent

Finally, we have all the details about LSU's opener in the College World Series.

The Tigers will play at 6 p.m. Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska, against Tennessee on ESPN. The Volunteers came back from a 5-3 loss at Southern Mississippi in Game 1 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional to advance with an 8-4 victory Sunday and a 5-0 win late Monday night.

Monday's game in Hattiesburg was supposed to start at 5 p.m. but was actually delayed to 9 p.m. by one of those dry weather delays — sound familiar? The Volunteers and Golden Eagles didn't finish until well after the unreal finish in Game 3 out in Stanford, California, with Stanford stunning Texas 7-6.

Did you see the ending to that one? We don't usually do this in the LSU newsletter, but frankly it's worth a look. Especially since Stanford is also on LSU's side of the CWS bracket, taking on top-seeded Wake Forest in Saturday's first game.

What's also worth a look is LSU coach Jay Johnson's contract. We have the details on what bonuses he's qualified for so far this postseason, and what he's in line to get if the Tigers make a run to that long sought-after seventh CWS championship.

Ever wonder what these monumental games are like from the player's family's perspective? During LSU's super regional-clinching 8-3 victory Sunday night over Kentucky, our Reed Darcey watched the game with the family of Dylan Crews, in what was surely the All-American outfielder's last game at Alex Box Stadium. Afterward, he filed this dispatch.

Early odds are out on LSU in the College World Series. We've got them for you right here. We've also got a poll asking readers who more crucial to the Tigers' run at the CWS title, Crews or All-American pitcher Paul Skenes? Interesting question.

Finally, we have a photo retrospective on some of LSU's past trips to the College World Series. How many of these do you remember?

Thanks for reading and subscribing. Our team will be in Omaha starting on Wednesday with wall-to-wall coverage of the Tigers, so please keep clicking.

Until then,

Scott Rabalais
