LSU family suffers another tragic loss

Sometimes the news is just awful to report.

That was the case Wednesday, with the news that former LSU basketball star Wayne Sims died at age 54.

A stalwart on LSU's teams from the late 1980s and early 90s, Sims and his wife Fay suffered the tragic loss of their son Wayde in September 2018 when he was shot and killed while a member of the LSU basketball team.

Of course, the thoughts of everyone at The Advocate are with the Sims family at this time.

The games go on always, and LSU's No. 1-ranked baseball team is back home to host Kentucky in a three-game series starting Thursday night. Leah Vann features Tigers pitcher Griffin Herring and his growing role in the LSU bullpen.

Meanwhile, the LSU gymnastics team is in Fort Worth for its 32nd appearance in the NCAA Championships. The Tigers' semifinal is at 2 p.m. Thursday on ESPN2.

As spring football rolls on, LSU offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock has designs on improving the Tigers' passing attack this fall. Wilson Alexander clues us in with his feature story.

It's hard to believe, but the LSU beach volleyball team is nearing the end of its 10th season. Checking in with coach Russell Brock as the Tigers wrap up the regular season at home and look ahead to championship season.

Finally, the LSU track and field teams are competing in Florida and California this weekend, with most of the team in Gainesville and a group of distance runners in Azusa, California.

Thanks so much for reading and subscribing.
