Nussmeier played well at times, but offense has major flaws
The big storyline coming out of LSU's loss to Arkansas was the play of freshman quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. After taking over for sophomore Max Johnson in the first quarter, Nussmeier led LSU on two consecutive scoring drives. LSU kept him in the rest of the game, but the offense fizzled, and Nussmeier threw two interceptions. You can read more about Nussmeier's day in our film review, which also touched on the offensive issues as a whole and another stellar game by the defense. Regardless of who plays quarterback against ULM and Texas A&M, the Tigers have a lot to fix. They haven't scored more than 17 points since mid-October. However, if LSU's defense keeps playing like it did Saturday, the team will have a chance to reach a bowl. Using an array of blitzes for the second straight week, LSU proved its turnaround wasn't a fluke. Meanwhile, the LSU basketball teams are in the early stages of their seasons. Kim Mulkey's squad lost their first game Sunday to Florida Gulf Coast University, while Will Wade's group is preparing to face Liberty. Lastly, LSU soccer lost 3-0 to Memphis in the first round of the NCAA tournament Sunday, ending its season. The loss hurt, but the the team appeared to make strides this year, starting 8-0 to earn a No. 6 ranking early in the season. Thanks for reading everyone. Until next time, Wilson Alexander |
