Tigers Cam Wire, Tyrion Davis-Price return to practice; Jay Ward back at full speed
Welcome to fall, LSU fans. Time to fall into another LSU sports newsletter. The weather may have given us a cool spell for a few days, but the LSU sports news is heating up as the Tigers prepare for Saturday's crucial SEC opener at Mississippi State (11 a.m., ESPN). And the news from the practice field was good for LSU on Wednesday, as the Tigers got left tackle Cam Wire and running back Tyrion Davis-Price back in action. Also, safety Jay Ward's health is apparently improving, as he practiced Wednesday full speed. Speaking of Ward, Scott Rabalais' column is on the Tigers' safety who is a big key to stopping Mississippi State's Air Raid offense. There also may be a mention or two (or three) of a rough weekend for SEC officiating crews. If you're planning ahead, here's a look at the just-released 2022 LSU football schedule, which starts in New Orleans with a game against Florida State at the Caesars Superdome (no jokes about white smoke, please). Our Wilson Alexander has a deeper dive into stopping the Air Raid passing attack that riddled LSU in last year's 44-34 Bulldogs' upset win in Tiger Stadium. And Scott Rabalais takes us down memory lane with a look at five memorable games from the LSU-Miss. State series. Trivia time: Which opponent has LSU played more games against than anyone else? Tulane? Alabama? Ole Miss? It's Mississippi State. Saturday's game will be the 115th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Bulldogs in a series that began in 1896. Until next time, The Advocate LSU beat team (Scott Rabalais, Wilson Alexander and Sheldon Mickles) |
