Jay Johnson didn't mince any words about the transfer portal last month, even as his LSU Tigers were battling to get into and win the College World Series championship final. “If you’re one of the best players in the transfer portal, there’s only one place to come play,” the LSU baseball coach said after his Tigers eliminated Wake Forest in a 2-0, 11-inning thriller. Apparently, UCLA pitcher Gage Jump was one of the players heeding Johnson's call. He has followed former Bruins pitcher Thatcher Hurd's example and transferred to LSU. Meanwhile, former LSU outfielder Josh Stevenson announced his transfer destination, but you're going to have to click here to find out where (hey, I'm working for this stuff, you can put out a little effort as well. Fair's fair). While baseball has entered the transfer season, track and field is still going strong. So is former LSU sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson. The 100-meter specialist won a big race Friday night at the U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon, with another of the best times in the world in her event this year. The huge victory sets her up for the world championships next month in Budapest, Hungary. Seven other LSU athletes also advanced to the worlds Friday. Back to baseball where LSU's dynamic duo — Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes — headlined the All-Louisiana baseball team. Also this week, Crews received the prestigious Roy Kramer SEC male athlete of the year award. Finally, LSU gymnast and social media superstar Olivia Dunne has started a fund to help LSU female student-athletes with NIL opportunities. Read more about The Livvy Fund here. One last note: LSU golfer Aine Donegan struggled to a 4-over par 76 in the second round of the U.S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach, but is still on the leaderboard in a tie for 11th at 1 over halfway through the championship. Thanks for reading, folks. Hope you have a great sports weekend, and we'll meet again on the other side. Scott Rabalais |
