LSU still playing House with defense

Fifty-five points.

Seven hundred and six total yards.

Thirty-three first downs.

These are but a few of the bigger Ole Miss stats from the Rebels' win Saturday over LSU, a loss that has Tiger fans everywhere questioning everything about Brian Kelly's football program.

Question No. 1: Is defensive coordinator Matt House still solely in charge?

The answer from Kelly at his Monday news conference to kick off Missouri week was an emphatic yes. Not that he hasn't brought in legendary long-time defensive line coach Pete Jenkins to be a defensive analyst and help shore up a defensive line badly in need of some help.

Maybe it's a good decision and maybe it isn't. But the Tigers (3-2, 2-1 SEC) have to try something before the entire season slips away.

Something also has to be done so as not to waste what is becoming an historically superb season for LSU's offense. We tell you what Kelly had to say about that as well.

In my column today, I wrote about the importance of bringing back Jenkins and pointed out a salient fact: LSU won't be LSU again, a championship-contending program, unless the caliber of defense vastly improves to something resembling it's former self.

OK, that's our big three, so let's put the two-minute offense on the rest of Monday's stories and tell you that:

That's all for today, folks. I'd say that's plenty. Thanks for reading and subscribing. We'll be back each and every day this football season, such as it is, with our LSU newsletter, so don't touch that dial.
