LSU Tigers back to having to win well

How do you know the football situation is improving at LSU?

Once again it's not just enough for the Tigers to be winning. They have to win with style and efficiency.

Saturday's 13-10 victory at Arkansas helped clinch a stunning SEC West title for No. 6-ranked LSU (8-2, 6-1 SEC), which steps out of conference Saturday to host UAB (5-5) at 8 p.m. in Tiger Stadium on ESPN2.

But the Tigers' offense left a trail of debris from Fayetteville back to Baton Rouge, managing just 86 yards passing and less than 300 yards total.

At his weekly news conference Monday, coach Brian Kelly ticked off some reasons for and ways how his Tigers will be able to improve on offense goint into the UAB game and beyond.

In my column today, I suggested a few "What should be/what will be" scenarios involving Kelly's chances to be SEC coach of the year, freshman phenom Harold Perkins and the Heisman Trophy and LSU's prospects of winning the SEC and getting into the College Football Playoff.

We've got your kickoff time and TV network assignment for LSU's regular-season finale next Saturday at Texas A&M, and we've got your early betting line on the SEC Championship Game matchup between LSU and Georgia on Dec. 3.

After his amazing performance at Arkansas (8 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles), Perkins on Monday picked up some big awards to go with his helmet sticker from ESPN's College Football Final show on Saturday night. And this just in: he just recorded another sack at Arkansas a few minutes ago.

We've got an injury update from coach Kelly for you to start the week. And we hear him tell us why chicken broth was on the menu on the LSU sideline Saturday in Fayetteville.

Thanks for reading and subscribing to our newsletter. Keep for our LSU updates each and every day throughout the season.
