LSU women go from sweet to elite

Greetings from Greenville, South Carolina, where the LSU women's basketball team Friday went from Sweet (16) to Elite (Eight).

The No. 3 seed in the NCAA Greenville 2 Regional, the Tigers turned back No. 2 Utah 66-63 in a thriller to reach the program's first regional finale since 2008. That was the year LSU made the last of its five straight Women's Final Four runs.

LSU advanced to take on No. 9-seeded Miami in Sunday's regional final (6 p.m. CDT, ESPN). The Hurricanes (22-12), who beat Villanova 70-65 in Friday's first semifinal, are in their first NCAA regional final, the Tigers (31-2) their ninth.

We've got lots more coverage of the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament:

  • Yours truly was courtside Friday and filed this column (they couldn't stop me).
  • Since I was there, I also jotted down my three initial thoughts on the game.
  • Did you see what Kim Mulkey was wearing? If you didn't, or did and don't believe it, click here.
  • Which audacious Mulkey outfit are you? Take our fun fashion quiz.
  • Did you see who was watching from the stands Friday?

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for LSU sports teams Friday.

LSU baseball's stay at No. 1 may be short lived, as LSU couldn't get enough hits to take advantage of another stellar pitching effort by Paul Skenes and fell 9-3 to Arkansas in 10 innings. We have a photo gallery from the game as well. Check out the details on Saturday's Tigers-Razorbacks doubleheader.

The LSU softball team dropped its fourth straight SEC game, losing its series opener 5-1 at Ole Miss.

Track and field didn't have a bad Friday, that's because it's getting ready to compete in the Battle on the Bayou meet.

That’s all for now. We’ll have much more content for you from Greenville on Saturday and the rest of the LSU sports scene, so why would you go anywhere else?

Enjoy the rest of your LSU sports weekend, folks.
